Hume Conservatorium is not-for-profit education organisation and the centre for music education in the Southern Tablelands and Southern Highlands of NSW. Based in Goulburn, we were founded in 1985 as a member of the Association of NSW Regional Conservatoriums. We offer accessible music programs for all ages and abilities, across all genres of music, including individual and group lessons, an early childhood music program, an in-schools music program, and ensembles – enriching the lives of our students and the community. We are more than just a music school. We are a regional community of music makers and creatives. We aim to be the trusted go-to provider and enabler of quality music education, performance and creativity for everyone in our region. We inspire, connect and enrich our diverse community through the power of music and creativity.
There are over 1000 students enrolled in our music programs, across all genres of music, from Early Childhood Music, individual lessons and ensembles to tertiary courses via the University of New England. We offer a range of music for schools, students of all ages and community ensembles.
Hume Con offers a range of Professional Development programs to regional teachers and partners with community organisations to promote the creative arts in our region. Through our comprehensive In-Schools Music Program we actively support schools in our region to enhance their creative education, particularly the annual Goulburn Community of Public Schools (GCOPS) Music Festival and work closely with The Arts Unit (Department of Education) to enhance their high school music programs. We have supercharged our online music programs and are currently enhancing our music technology facilities to reach more students in the region.
In 2018, Hume Con received an NSW government grant to renovate the ‘Old Ceramics Room’ to develop a new educational/artistic venue called ‘The Creative Precinct’, which will officially open in 2022. Hume Con is an active member of the community and works closely with partners such as Southern Tableland Arts, the Goulburn Club, Lieder Theatre, Rocky Hill Music Theatre Society, the Goulburn Performing Arts Centre, Goulburn Regional Art Gallery, Museums and Library.
The Goulburn and Hume region have been an important meeting place for thousands of years, and we pay our respects to the traditional owners and custodians of the lands on which we meet, learn and make music. We acknowledge all Aboriginal Elders, past, present and future, including the Gundungurra, Mulwaree, Tarlo, Burra Burra, Wollondilly, Wiradjuri, Dharrook, Tharawal, Lachlan, Pajong, Parramarragoo, Cookmal and Ngunnwal peoples.

We acknowledge the traditional Custodians of this Land, where the Aboriginal People have performed age-old ceremonies of storytelling, music, dance and celebration. As a traditional meeting place, many first nations peoples came to this region. Underneath our buildings and roads this Land always will be traditional Aboriginal Land. in the same way, all music making genres and practices come from our musical elders, so we acknowledge those on whose skills and wisdom we draw.
