Our successfully funded project was a collaboration between Goulburn Performing Arts Centre and the Hume Conservatorium, focusing on being a hub of cultural resources that supports community organisations – education partners, community music and arts groups in Goulburn and region. Our project focuses on major instruments (pianos), a collection of resources for community and schools to share at low cost, and a full technology upgrade for our teaching spaces and remote/online teaching. Musicians of all ages engage with the Conservatorium for music education, and we engage with the schools in our region to enhance their music programs with teaching and shared resources.
This community partnership was founded on a continuous cycle of music making and education in the region. We have upgrade our “Rock Con” resources (technology and instruments) for community-based music making, teaching and content creation: a place for musicians to learn music production, and to use this space as online teaching facility to connect to other music education providers, providing a convenient pathway between secondary and tertiary education for students. Our arts partners provide our community with quality performance and educational opportunities. We purchased a Yamaha CFX7 grand piano for the newly opened Creative Precinct and 13 pianos for our teaching spaces, including portable digital pianos for group lessons. We will developed a new music technology teaching studio to incorporate a collection of new computers and music production software for use in house and to share with schools for music education offsite.
We provide opportunities for our community to make music in an accessible space, without which access to music education within the region would be unable to expand with the areas needs/demands. Our community covers the Southern Tablelands and Southern Highlands, and we want to provide more access to our range of facilities and qualified music teachers. The benefits for our post-pandemic and poorly resourced region are enormous. We provide a vital connection for remote and regional towns with limited access to live music and education. With better instruments and technology resources, we can welcome more touring artists such as Musica Viva, Music in the Regions and Sydney International Piano Competition, and more, to the region. Improved technology allows concerts to be shared with regional audiences through streaming. Expanding our instruments inventory will enhance the community investment and demonstrate a strong return on economic and social investment of government.
We acknowledge the support Creative Capital Funding program through Create NSW and the NSW Government for the addition of new instruments and upgraded technology for Hume Conservatorium to deliver stronger programs for our communities.Â

We acknowledge the traditional Custodians of this Land, where the Aboriginal People have performed age-old ceremonies of storytelling, music, dance and celebration. As a traditional meeting place, many first nations peoples came to this region. Underneath our buildings and roads this Land always will be traditional Aboriginal Land. in the same way, all music making genres and practices come from our musical elders, so we acknowledge those on whose skills and wisdom we draw.
